Why April
Why April
April falls in the long rains. Expect afternoon showers, deep-green landscapes, newborn animals and dramatic skies — and far fewer vehicles than in the dry season. The crater's wildlife stays year-round, so game viewing there is excellent. Our vehicles and guides are experienced on wet-season roads.
Every small-group departure uses the same guides and vehicles as our private journeys, and never more than six travellers to a vehicle.

The itinerary
Camps are confirmed at booking and chosen for their position first. Order and timings can shift with the herds and the weather — that is what the reserve day is for.

Day 2 · Tue 13 Apr
Tarangire
Out of Arusha and into Tarangire by late morning. An afternoon along the Tarangire River among elephant herds and ancient baobabs.

Day 3 · Wed 14 Apr
Tarangire in full
A full day in the park, with an early start for the best light and predators on the move. Optional walking safari on the park's edge with an armed ranger.

Day 4 · Thu 15 Apr
Lake Manyara
Into Lake Manyara National Park: groundwater forest full of baboons and blue monkeys, then the open lake shore with flamingos, pelicans and buffalo. Up the escarpment to the highlands in the afternoon.

Day 5 · Fri 16 Apr
Ngorongoro Crater
Down onto the crater floor at first light. Black rhino, lion, hyena and the flamingo lakes, with a picnic lunch in the crater.

Day 6 · Sat 17 Apr
The highlands
A slower day: a second crater descent, a walk on a highland coffee farm, or a visit to a nearby village with a local guide. Chosen with the group the evening before.

Day 7 · Sun 18 Apr
Return to Arusha
Back down the escarpment to Arusha for lunch, then on to Kilimanjaro airport for evening flights, or onward to Zanzibar.
